Speaker Information, Mizzou Law Veterans Clinic Symposium (April 11, 2025)

WELCOME TO THE 2025 MIZZOU LAW VETERANS CLINIC SYMPOSIUM

We are thrilled to have you join us as a speaker for this impactful event. Your expertise and insights are vital to addressing the critical issue of veteran homelessness, and we are deeply grateful for your commitment to this cause.

The Show-Me: Home Symposium brings together community members, lawyers, and veteran advocates to foster meaningful discussions and actionable solutions. With your participation, this event will inspire and equip attendees with the knowledge and tools they need to make a difference. We have worked hard to ensure your experience is both enjoyable and seamless. Below, you’ll find details to guide you during the event.

The symposium will take place in Hulston Hall, the home of the University of Missouri School of Law. We’ve also arranged special opportunities for you to connect with other participants which are note below.

  • Facilitators: Each presentation has been assigned a point person at the Mizzou Law Veterans Clinic to assist with your session preparation. Your facilitator will reach out to you soon to discuss your session goals, parameters, and needs.

SESSION TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS
  • Session Title and Description: Please finalize and submit a session title and description to your facilitator by Monday, February 17th by 5:00 P.M. Having your session titles and descriptions finalized by this date allows the Clinic to begin advertising the Symposium.
  • Session Materials: Although no materials are required to be provided by you to attendees, you are free to create materials in support of your session. Submit any handouts, PowerPoint presentations, or other materials by Monday, March 10th by 5:00 P.M. Please note that this date has been selected because the Clinic will work to obtain CLE accreditation in numerous states and this information is required by this date to do so. We appreciate your assistance on this front. Minor, non-substantive changes can be made afterward as needed. If you choose to use a PowerPoint presentation, please utilize this provided PowerPoint template.
  • Speaker Biographies: Your name on the soon to be public symposium website links to your public biography. If you would like to provide an updated or different biography, let us know.

COCKTAIL HOUR AND SPEAKER DINNER

As a speaker at at the Symposium, you are invited to a cocktail hour and speaker dinner the night before the Symposium on Thursday April, 10 at the University of Missouri School of Law. The cocktail party is an opportunity to meet with fellow speakers, law students, law school staff and faculty, and University officials. The speaker dinner is a more private opportunity for speakers to have dinner together after the cocktail hour.

Although the Clinic is unable to pay for travel expenses for plus ones, if you would like to bring a plus one to the cocktail hour or speaker dinner let Erik Spence know!

April 10, 2025

  • 5:30 – 7:00 PM: Cocktail Hour
  • 7:00 – 8:30 PM: Speaker Dinner

April 11, 2025

  • 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM: Symposium

SYMPOSIUM MATERIALS, CLE ACCREDITATION, AND PROMOTING THE EVENT
  • Symposium Materials: All presentation materials provided by speakers will also be shared with attendees, ensuring they leave with valuable resources and information.
  • CLE Accreditation: We are working to secure CLE credit for this program in each speaker’s respective state.
  • Media Kit: A media kit will be provided to help you promote the symposium. We hope you will assist in spreading the word through your personal and organizational channels. Registration is free of charge, and we’d love your support in encouraging attendance.

AMENTIES AND LOGISTICS
  • Green Room: Available in the Mizzou Law Veterans Clinic, stocked with snacks, drinks, and food. The symposium will be live-streamed on the TV for you to follow along. You are free to stay in the room where the Symposium is being hosted, or in the Green Room.
  • Law Student Assistance: Our law students will escort you to the symposium room before your session begins. Law students will also be available for general assistance the day before and the day of the event.
  • Question & Answer Sessions: These will be conducted via an application, with facilitators managing the process to ensure smooth and engaging discussions.
  • Flights: The Clinic will cover flights for you to and from the Symposium. Erik Spence will be reaching out to you to coordinate flights soon. He will present options for your flights, either through Columbia Regional (COU) and/or St. Louis International (STL). Once you select your preferred flight itinerary, he will have you complete a short traveler information form, after which he will book your flights and email you your confirmations and itineraries. Please note that if you need to leave the Symposium early after your session has concluded in order to get home timely, we encourage you to do so.
  • Hotel Accommodations: Speakers will stay at the Broadway, a Doubletree by Hilton, in downtown Columbia. Erik will email your confirmation information closer to the date of the Symposium.
  • Ground Transportation: Those not having a personal vehicle will receive an Uber Voucher to use for your transportation needs while in Columbia. Details will be emailed closer to your travel dates. Those with a vehicle will be eligible for reimbursements discussed below, or you may also choose to utilize Uber to move around town.
  • Travel Reimbursements: Eligible travel reimbursements include your mileage/fares to/from your local airport, parking at your local airport, mileage to/from Columbia if you drive, hotel parking fees in Columbia, and reasonable meal expenses during your trip. To receive reimbursement after your trip, you will include your receipts along with the following forms, IRS Form W-9, MU Direct Deposit Request Form, and the Non-Employee Expense Report Detail. These forms will be provided after the conference.

  1. Finalize Presentation Title and Description: Submit these to your facilitator by Monday, February 17th by 5:00 P.M.
  2. Finalize and Submit Materials: Provide any PowerPoint presentations, handouts, or additional materials by Monday, March 10th by 5:00 P.M.
