Mizzou Law Veterans Clinic Awarded VA Grant Again to Combat Veteran Homelessness

The Mizzou Law Veterans Clinic is proud to announce that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has once again selected the Clinic to receive a grant supporting its work on behalf of veterans experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. This marks the third time the Clinic has been chosen for this funding—reflecting the VA’s continued confidence in the Clinic’s record of results and its steadfast commitment to veterans.

Since the launch of the program, the Clinic has expanded its services specifically for homeless veterans, securing hundreds of thousands of dollars in disability compensation benefits, obtaining numerous discharge upgrades, and directly connecting veterans to supportive services. Most importantly, the Clinic has helped bring many veterans out of homelessness who are now stably housed—demonstrating the tangible impact of this work. The Clinic routinely receives spotless marks from VA auditors and has been applauded for how its program is run—underscoring its reputation as a national model for excellence in serving homeless veterans.

Director Brent Filbert emphasized that this renewed support is a testament to the Clinic’s proven impact: “This grant is an affirmation of the trust placed in our team and our students. It reflects years of hard work to provide high-quality legal services to veterans who deserve not just our gratitude but real help in securing housing, benefits, and a fresh start.”

Andy Rogers, who heads the Clinic’s homeless program, highlighted the transformative nature of the work: “We are seeing more veterans moving from crisis to stability because of the services we provide. This renewed grant allows us to continue making those life-changing connections.”

Although the Clinic receives grant funding from the VA, it operates independently and makes all case decisions based solely on the best interests of the veterans it serves. This independence ensures the Clinic’s advocacy remains veteran-centered and free from outside direction.
